Gully Cleaning

Here at RMS Waste, we offer a range of waste disposal and drainage system services from our base in Hampshire in Southampton, including car park and road gully cleaning. A gully is the concrete or plastic container just under the road surface covered with an iron grate. As it rains the water pours in to the gully trapping any leaves or debris as it flows to form part of the drain system, as it is channelled through a network of pipes that lead to the main storm water drains network.

We need to carry out gully cleaning as the gully will fill up and get blocked by leaves, mud, litter and other debris. This can stop the flow of water and disrupt the whole of the drainage system, resulting in standing water on roads and walkways and in extreme cases flooding. Drain gully cleaning consists of vacuuming the build-up of waste, as well as carrying out an inspection of the drain and any high-pressure water jetting to get rid of any obstructions.

Whilst the grate – commonly known as the gully trap – protects some debris from getting in, the debris can still accumulate over time, especially in bad weather, and if this hardens, this is when there is a risk of flooding, as well as unpleasant smells from the drains. At RMS Waste, we have the right tools and technical skills to properly clean out the gully.
